Avnish Bajaj is the co–founder and Managing Director of Matrix Partners India which is an investment firm with INR 3000 cr under management. Matrix India invests across early and growth stages of businesses in select sectors – Mobile Internet, Healthcare and Consumer.
Previously Avnish was the co–founder, Chairman and CEO of India’s Largest Online Marketplace - Baazee.com - which was acquired by eBay. eBay India today is the largest eCommerce Marketplace in India. Prior to Baazee, he was an Investment Banker with the Hi–Tech group at Goldman Sachs in New York and San Francisco. He was also a management consultant at McKinsey & Co. and started his career with Apple Computer in the Bay Area.
Avnish’s select current investments for Matrix India include Limeroad (mobile social marketplace), Ola (online transportation aggregator), Practo (doctor search engine), Quikr (online local classifieds), Stayzilla (hotels and alternate stays marketplace), Centre for Sight (eye care hospitals), cloudnine (maternity hospitals), Meditrina (cardiac care hospitals) and Mewar (orthopaedic hospitals). He is also a founder investor in Cleartrip (online travel agent) and has a few other investments as an angel investor.
He is a Baker Scholar from Harvard Business School, WARF Fellow from University of Wisconsin–Madison and a Computer Science graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
He has been honored with various academic and professional achievements such as National Talent Search Scholarship, AISSCE Topper Award, Young Achievers Award (Outlook Magazine 2005) and citations by various industry organizations.
